How You Can Help Immigrants Today
Immigration Counseling Service (ICS) was founded on the principal that we must defend the constitutional and legal rights of our most vulnerable neighbors, especially immigrants and refugees. For nearly 50 years, our practice has reflected the belief that people who leave their homes and build lives in the United States should be treated with humanity, dignity, and respect.
But today, the Trump Administration is threatening immigrant safety by calling for mass deportations, dismantling longstanding rights, dehumanizing migrants, and disempowering community-based organizations like ICS. In these challenging times, the question we hear most frequently is, “How can I help?”
We are stronger when we build together. Here are four ways you can stand with us for a more just, equitable, and vibrant future:
Urge Your Representatives to Keep Families and Communities Together
The Trump Administration’s immigration policies are expanding deportation and detention across the United States in ways that violate fundamental constitutional and human rights. These efforts put children, families, and beloved community members at risk of separation, and deprive neighborhoods of people who have contributed to their growth for years.
Contact your federal and state representatives today and urge them to stand up for the constitutional rights of our immigrant and refugee neighbors.
Join #TheMajorityProject from our community partner Signs of Justice and tell Congress that you are part of the 70% of Americans who support pathways to citizenship!
Share Know Your Rights Resources
Everyone in the United States has constitutional rights and protections, regardless of their immigration status. Share and use these resources to learn about your rights and express them in case you have an encounter with an immigration official:
Share ICS’s Know Your Rights Overview in English and Spanish.
Carry your U.S.-issued documentation and a Know Your Rights card with you at all times – including if you are a U.S. citizen!
Access other resources related to Know Your Rights, legal assistance, mental health care, and other community services here.
Encourage Immigrants to Seek Trusted Legal Counsel
Know Your Rights resources are for general information and are not legal advice. If there is anyone who has legal questions about their status or situation, please encourage them to request a consultation with ICS here or speak to another immigration attorney.
Make a Gift
Your gift can reunite a family, free a detained asylum seeker, or save the life of an individual who faces deportation to a life-threatening situation. Your support helps ICS ensure that immigrants have access to fundamental legal protections and due process:
Choose monthly giving to provide steady funding we can count on throughout the year.
Sponsor an unaccompanied child by setting up a monthly $100 donation to ICS.
